permission denied problem with CVS |

Synopsis: a working repository stopped working with permission denied
Severity: critical
Priority: high
Category: cvs
Class: sw-bug
Release: cvs-1.10.7
Environment:
System: SunOS zarya 5.8 Generic sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-250
Architecture: sun4
Description:
We had been using CVS for weeks without a hitch. Then all of a sudden
it started to give permission denied on all operations (checkout, status,
commit). We don't know of anything we changed that could have
caused the problem. At this point we can't get CVS to work at all.
After creating a brand new repository on the same system,
a 'cvs status' gives permission denied, even though the Unix permissions
are wide open. The access method is rsh. A search did not find
any lock files. We are able to rsh into the machine and create files
in the repository directory as the same user that the cvs -t command
shows is in effect.
Not sure this is a proper forum, but you may have heard this problem
before. We've spent two full days trying to figure it out. Help!!!!
