Hi. I got yesterday a brand-new Pioneer DVR-105 and I'm trying to test it.

First I've downloaded the most recent version of dvdrtools (0.1.2) in my
  Slackware-current system (let's say a 8.1+ version) and I compiled it.

I prepared then a test iso image with the command:

/usr/local/bin/mkisofs -r -o monika.iso Monika

this produced the following file:

$ ls -l monika.iso
-rw-r--r--    1 monika   users    1452867584 Dec 31 19:04 monika.iso

which is 1.4GB big, enough to test a backup on DVD-RW.

I'm using linux-2.4.19, with few modules for the ide-scsi emulation:

$ uname -a
Linux monika 2.4.19 #7 Tue Oct 15 22:40:10 CEST 2002 i686 unknown

# lsmod
Module                  Size  Used by
sg                     27916   0  (autoclean)
ide-scsi                8848   0
scsi_mod               56100   2  [sg ide-scsi]

My DVD-R device is correctly recognized by dvdrecord:

# dvdrecord -scanbus

Let's arrive to the problem: when I try to write something on my DVD-RW
disc, which is a "PRINCO DVD-RW ver. 1.1":

It exits returning to the shell prompt. The exact same problem when I
try to blank a disc.

This is the last part of the strace output:

I tried then to download the patched cd-record version; I got the rpm
because the cd-record web site is unavaiable for me at the moment. After
having installed it:

bugs that are not present in the original. Please send any bug report or
support
request to <address@hidden>. The original cdrecord author has not to
be bothered with problem in this version

Manufacturer is unknown because of the orange forum embargo.
As the orange forum likes to get money for recent information,
it may be that this media does not use illegal manufacturer coding.

after this I can mount the DVD-RW and see all the data etc.

What is the problem? Should I upgrade my kernel, wait for a new version
of the program supporting my new dvd-recorder, or something else?

bye bye thank you!!!
