There's basically three things one wants to do with drug data:
1) access textual information for reference and information
purposes via a drug browser
2) access detailed, programmatic information for decision
support via program logic
3) store/retrieve information about drugs associated
with a patient
- All three can have separate (but uniform across sources) APIs.
- 1) and 2) can share the same API.
- 1) and 2) can share the same data source.
- 3) should be stored in a data repository (say, the GnuMed
"historica" service) separate from 1) and 2).
- the allergies tables/code gives some hint towards 3)
- drugref is likely to deliver 2)
- the MIMS/AMIS stuff lends itself well to 1)
- 1) is needed
Keeping these issues cleanly separated in the domain model is
key to timely progress, I dare believe.
