I have read the documentation today and got a rough idea how everything
works together. I played a bit around with pygtk and it seems like there
are no problems when using it together with the engine in an editor. At
least the gfx module works. But as you told the map part still has to be
done.
I looked at the api documentation and itemtest.py and I think I
understand how it works (although, I didn't find and documentation about
the function "pyitem = item.get_instance ()" ).

But what shall I actually work on now?

btw, I would suggest to make the irc channel permanent.
