I am not surprised.  I stopped advertising that tarball months ago.

Fedora Core 3 should have gnome-vfs rpms already built.  I found some at

  http://atrpms.net/dist/fc3/gnome-vfs2/

You need to install the devel packages and dependencies.

I get a similar error when trying to compile with gcc 3.4.  I assume
that is the same error.

Yes, that won't work for a number of reasons.

I have gcc 3.4 on my laptop.  Give me a few days to make the necessary
modifications.  I may have to update to the latest boost, but I have
to do that eventually anyway.
