I really don't know what the problem is.  You might want to try

  ./configure CXXFLAGS='-O -g' --disable-curses ...

and see if that helps.  If not try CXXFLAGS='-g'.  If either of these work 
than it is probably a GCC bug.  Unfortunately with out at least -O Aspell 
will be very slow.

If that doesn't work I am not sure what the problem is.
