I personally advocate dropping (C) marks to cut down on general confusion
about them.  A lot of people seem to believe that they're required, but so
far as I've heard they don't have any legal standing anywhere in the world
and at the least are definitely redundant with the word "Copyright".  The
symbol c-in-a-circle is one of the accepted ways of stating "Copyright" in
the United States, but even it is redundant with the word and (C) is not
legally the same thing as a c-in-a-circle mark.

Using (C) seems to encourage cargo-cult use of it in other people's
copyright statements "just in case," so since I've previously went and
checked into whether they're useful, I feel some minor obligation to not
use them and hence maybe show people that they aren't necessary.
