As I said, I don't think that "etcetera" is unconventional in English; it
is quite common to see it spelled out rather than abbreviated.  After all,
if people didn't know what the abbreviation was for, how would anyone ever
be able to pronounce it?  (Not counting those who mispronounce it
"ek-setera.")

Not that I have any strong objection to "and so on," or "etc.," for that
matter.
