I had managed to bring it on myself,

        my_objects = one$U.lo two$U.lo \

where @THREE@ could be empty, depending on the configuration.  (A
replacement for vsnprintf as it happened.)

Why I conditionalized it that particular way I don't remember.  Doing
it in the .c source would probably have been simpler.
