I used --prefix=/usr/local/autotools.  However, I am using stow to
manage this so after I ran make, I ran:

  make install prefix=/usr/local/autotools/stow/gettext-0.11.5

(etc. for the different tools) then used "stow" to make them appear in
the proper spot.

The symlinks all look correct to me; maybe gettext doesn't work well if
you specify prefix= on the "make install" line?

How can I figure out what areas are aclocal-visible?
