Part of my effort to help stablize Autoconf for the next release is to
try to scan all patches that are applied for potential regressions. The
patches corresponding to these ChangeLog entries have not appeared on
this list yet (which, of course, may just be a mail propagation issue,
in which case I ask you to please ignore this post of mine):

2006-03-17  Stepan Kasal  <address@hidden>

        * lib/autoconf/programs.m4 (AC_PATH_TOOL, AC_CHECK_TOOL,
AC_CHECK_TOOLS):
          Factor out the warning to...
        (_AC_TOOL_WARN): ... this new macro; use `cross_compiling'.
        * tests/local.at (AT_CHECK_MACRO_CROSS): Avoid this warning.
        * tests/semantics.at (AC_C_BIGENDIAN): Likewise.

2006-03-17  Stepan Kasal  <address@hidden>

        * lib/autoconf/programs.m4 (AC_CHECK_PROG): Quote the parameter of
          AC_SUBST.
        (_AC_PATH_PROG): Store the result to VARIABLE.
        (AC_PATH_PROG): No need to set VARIABLE again.

The latter one looks like it causes a semantic change (but I can't tell
easily whether it is a bug fix or a regression, or neither).

Cheers,
Ralf
