I used master in releasing grep-3.9 recently, and that has so far
exposed no issue.

There are a bunch of pending patches, for which I've been unable to find time.
Can someone see if there's some small/safe set of changes that are essential?
If none (or few/easy), I might have time to make a snapshot soon.
I wouldn't be averse to making a quick release now, and to plan for a
follow-up once people find time for additional patches.
