That's great :-)

Script developed by GCC developers in the EGCS days to simplify life for
those CVS users who didn't have the full list of up-to-date maintainer
tools. Now available by running

cvs -d :pserver:address@hidden:/cvs co gcc/contrib/gcc_update

Right. I envision some kind of version synchronization, a la Tcl/Tk 8.0
without removing the option of installing the lower level (i.e. Autoconf)
without the upper level (i.e. Automake).

But doing so with Autoconf 2.50 would be premature. Automake should match
the changes in Autoconf. For example, instead of scanning configure.in,
Automake should use the trace option in Autoconf.

However, I'll be very happy to see the next version of Autoconf after 2.50
released together with Automake.
