Yeah, sorry.  I'm trying to use AS_MKDIR_P in an unescaped heredoc context.  The
reason I don't seem to be able to avoid _that_ is that I want it to happen as 
part of
a step before a header gets created so I'm passing it into AC_CONFIG_HEADER as 
an
INIT-CMD.
