I'd love to, but I've had VERY little time to work on this stuff lately.
I still have some local diffs to clean up & submit to autoconf-patches,
and I also need to build some DJGPP packages at some point (last time I
tried I got many testsuite failures, but didn't have the time to
investigate).

Sure, that would allow us to keep all of the current command-line
handling code as-is.
