automake not working inspite of AC_CONFIG_FILES([Makefile])

Hi!!



i have a problem even though i have Makefile.am



i am getting the following error when i do automake.







address@hidden:~/mutt-1.4.2.1$ automake



automake: no `Makefile.am' found or specified



 



in configure.in AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE & AC_CONFIG_FILES([Makefile])is also there.

the following is present in configure.in



AC_CONFIG_FILES([Makefile intl/Makefile m4/Makefile

        po/Makefile.in doc/Makefile contrib/Makefile

        muttbug.sh

        imap/Makefile

        Muttrc.head

        doc/instdoc.sh])

AC_CONFIG_FILES([Makefile])

AC_OUTPUT 



i am not able to figure out as to why automake is not working.
