By the way, why'd you report this to the autoconf list?  The file in
question came from the m4, which in turn borrows git-version-gen from
gnulib (although running ./git-version-gen --help leaves a lot to be
desired in proper bug reporting address).  Autoconf can do nothing to
fix this problem; it would have been better to write to bug-m4 and/or
bug-gnulib.
