getting abs paths into config.h / locating aux files at run time

I have a unit test binary that is not installed - and it uses an
auxiliary file. I would
like a way to "find" this file at run time. Is there a good way to get
the Makefile
variable "abs_srcdir" into config.h?

Or are there other strategies?
