Yes, that is exactly the problem I saw. I was trying to build in a sibling
directory.

AUTOMAKE_OPTIONS = foreign
bin_PROGRAMS = prog
tvtwm_SOURCES = grammar.y lex.l

and then i had the source in path/src and built in path/build
