Should this override inhibit the "install: install-am" line?  Why?
Besides, "install-recursive" 'cuz of the subdirectory.

Besides, that is not what I had.  What I had seems to be
an irreproducible result.  :-(  Either I was too tired or
I mysteriously fixed it.  I do believe that it was:

autoopts/ with a series of xxx.3's added to man_MANS.

> $ libtool --version
> (GNU libtool) 1.4.2 (1.922.2.53 2001/09/11 03:18:52)
> $ automake --version
> automake (GNU automake) 1.5d
> $ autoconf --version
> autoconf (GNU Autoconf) 2.52g

Is this anything close to the currently recommended set
of "tools designed to give you the least hassle"?

It would almost certainly need to be modified to have multiple
targets and a subdirectory to play with (viz., "test").
If I stub my toe again, I will make sure I remember how I did it.....
