What is libtool-nofpic?  Is that a gentoo patched libtool?

The 1.4 series of libtool comes from a branch made in early 2001, and had
an uninstall bug similar to what you describe.  Please upgrade to a recent
1.5.x release and try again.  If you still experience problems, please
report them to address@hidden
