It was not a snide remark, but intended as a slight warning.
To be honest, chances are low that it will break, and if it
will, then likely there will be a similar way to make it happen.
However, if there is a good reason to change the Automake code,
then it may eventually happen, and I will not view it as a
regression.

For example, the code works with Automake 1.6 and newer, but
not with 1.4.
