Which version of automake are you interested in?
It looks like the current git tree is still stuck at GPLv2+, although,
from commit fcf2f56, we intend to eventually move to GPLv3+ plus
exception (the exception ensuring that you can use automake on a non-GPL
project or on a GPLv2[+] project without being forced to use GPLv3),
similar to what autoconf has already done.
