The command-line is correct.

Libusb comes with a small test program, does it find your AVRISP mkII?
Any native OS X tools to see what's connected to the USB?

I have no idea which libusb version your dylib version corresponds to.
The minimum required version is 0.1.10, my FreeBSD one is 0.1.12.
