The script for avrfreaks' Bingo600 applies 14 patches, the first is
"patch-avr-libgcc.S" and it adds the lines that your patch (called
patch-newdevices) wants to find ( like: /* 3-Byte PC */). They are not
in the 'virgin' gcc 4.3.4 tarball.
The page:

only mentions getting the source and adding your patches. In that sense,
it's a bit wrong by omission.
Do you know how Bingo600 arrived at his list of patches ??
