Errm, nevermind, my other message (which didn't make it back to me
through the list, so I can't write a followup) was about avrdude, not
avarice.  Sorry for the confusion.

avarice doesn't and cannot support the ATmega168, as that device does
not have JTAG hardware.  It's one of the three exceptions from the
rule where any ATmega >= 16 KB ROM does have JTAG.  Remember, the
ATmega168 is just an ATmega88/48 with more flash ROM.
