Greetings!  Tim, is it possible you've grabbed the cvs HEAD/aka
unstable development branch for axiom?  If so, I'd suggest using the
stable branch, which has all the recent improvements backported into
it.  2.7.x is unstable, 2.6.x is stable.  In general for the future,
x.y.z is (stable,unstable) when y is (even,odd) just like the linux
kernel. 

export CVS_RSH=ssh
export CVSROOT=:ext:address@hidden:/cvsroot/gcl
cvs -z9 -q co -d gcl-2.6.1 -r Version_2_6_1 gcl

Without the -r Version.... arg, the head/unstable branch is taken by
default.
