Where does it say to make a link for ~/axiom to ~/axiom--main--1--patch-30?

Have you set the environment variables according to::

 % cd ~/axiom--main--1--patch-30
 % ./configure

Note: unlike other linux applications with Axiom you **must**
set these variables manually.

After setting the environment variables, what is the result of
running::

  % AXIOMsys

If cos(2) still causes a crash, please click on 'issues' at
the top of this page and submit a bug report.

If AXIOMsys works, try::

  % axiom

If this still has problems, then check the contents
of the script at::

  % which axiom

Make sure that the environment variables in the script are set
correctly.
