this seems to have gotten lost....
i got hyperdoc running on a windows platform.
there is a program called Xming (wiki.freedesktop.org/wiki/Xming)
that is a standalone X11 server running on windows.
it installs cleanly.
i compiled hyperdoc to run standalone and it runs without changes.
i'm now trying to get the graphics working.
