My machine is very similar
Xeon 2.6 (2 CPUs)
Memory: 2GB
DVD: 32 X

The time to boot was 2:20. (Of course I did not have a problem like
you with the network). Surely the boot process must be improved. I
will look into this. One thing is that the virtual machine is giving
me a better performance :-).
