For those who do not know.
I did found that ccaudio is using the extension so for mulawAudio the
file must have .ul extension

In scripting, the play/record command have encoding= options, and these
take simple definitions. Hence you can have encoding=alaw, for example.
The exact range of supported encodings depends on the specific driver.
The dialogic driver, for example, cannot do 16 bit linear without
software conversion, which is burdonsome.
