Today I release Bayonne 2 0.9.0. This release comprises a number of
changes in the core server and library infrastructure to facilitate
development of routing services within Bayonne. Bayonne can currently
service voice applications that do basic switching under script control.
However, there are many specialized applications, such as voip-pstn
gateways, which Bayonne's entirely script driven approach is difficult
to manage or deploy.
The primary method chosen is the idea of binding services to a Bayonne
server at runtime. In fact, the default behavior if Bayonne at runtime
is now built as bound service rather than being built in. This will
facilitate replacement and binding of pure routing services when
building dedicated gateways, and the use of mixed routing and
application services for higher end uses.
The more difficult part has been in finding an effective routing scheme
that can do things like support failover and speculative routing, and do
so without introducing too much complexity. Many of these concepts will
be explored as routing services plugins are developed in post 0.9.0
releases. Other areas which may also be explored in future Bayonne 2
plugins include dialing plans and extension endpoint management.
