Thanks for discovering the problem, and fixing it.

I would think that the patch that was submitted would work fine and that the
assumptions are correct, and that therefore everything should work as
expected. 

While this patch resolves this specific problem, I am thinking of adding
another one that resolves future similar problems as well. When time permits.
