I guess there is another point as well:
In open source there are a lot of security alerts because a lot of people use
and test the software. This doesn't mean the software is not secure, it means
the problem is dealt with openly and much faster.
Closely connected is the fact that the response time in OS security matters is
much shorter, which again increases security.
I think Mohammad was right in saying:
"Their "bread" will be converted to "aajor"!:)"
