It appears to work (i.e. don't search .):
ice:~>cd /usr/bin
ice:/usr/bin>/usr/local/bin/ksh
$ PATH=".;."
$ uptime
11:41PM up 1 day, 6:33, 3 users, load averages: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00
$ PATH="/nonexistent;."
$ uptime
/usr/local/bin/ksh: uptime: not found
