That's a known problem, and in 99% of all cases it is a fault on the
maintainer side.

Reasonably so, yes - of course I can only speak for myself, not all of
gnu.org :-)

Then why aren't you using an RPM? If you don't want to build the
software yourself, but do want the new features provided by the last
release, well - you can't have your cake and eat it. You'll just have
to wait until someone else build and distributes an RPM for you.
The release notes on www.boutell.com/gd/ say that there have been many
configure fixes between 2.0.8 and the latest release (2.0.11), so you
may want to get that release instead.
