I am trying to compile xinetd-2.3.13 on a SGI Irix 6.5.18f system.

However, as with other open source software out there, I am getting a headache while trying to compile open source on Irix.

Here is the message I get when I run "./configure":

configure: WARNING: rpc/pmap_clnt.h: present but cannot be compiled
configure: WARNING: rpc/pmap_clnt.h: check for missing prerequisite headers?
configure: WARNING: rpc/pmap_clnt.h: proceeding with the preprocessor's result
configure: WARNING:     ## ------------------------------------ ##
configure: WARNING:     ## Report this to address@hidden. ##
configure: WARNING:     ## ------------------------------------ ##

When I try to run "make"  after the configure I get the following error:
make: file `Makefile' line 17: Must be a separator (: or ::) for rules (bu39)
make: file `Makefile' line 17: Syntax error

Line 17 of the "Makefile" is:
CFLAGS += -g -O2
It looks ok to me.  I am not a programmer by any stretch of the imagination.  I don't know if the "make" error has anything to do with the "Warning".

What I would like to know though is:
a.)  Could the "Warning" above kill the install?
b.)  How can I resolve the "Warning"?
c.)  Has anyone compiled xinetd under Irix 6.5 and if so how did you do it?

If anyone has any help or comments I would appreciate it.

Thank you for your time.
