that is very kindly said, thank you!

Actually, the first thing which comes to my mind is that it would
help if you could re-run the testsuite for the current CVS version.

Please look at http://savannah.gnu.org/cvs/?group=autoconf
and get the current development tree.

Then run
        ./configure && make all check

The CVS contains all the generated files, so there should be no
bootstrapping problem.  (Otherwise you'd have to install automake-1.9.6
and ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/autoconf/autoconf-2.59b.tar.bz2 first.)

I hope that the unfortunate Fortran tests will be skipped, so they
won't be marked as "failed".  And we'll see what about the other tests.
And, if we are lucky, some other tests may fail, too, as a bonus. ;-)
