I got the following message when running configure for the readline-5.0 package:

System: Sun Ultra 20 (2.2GHz AMD Opteron / 1GB)
OS: Solaris 10
Shell: bash

Default compiler is /usr/ucb/cc, not gcc (don't know if that makes a difference 
or not).

Please let me know if there is any other information that would be useful to 
you.
