That's strange. Can you please investigate why this occurs, e.g., by
tracing or debugging 'make'?
Surely this is a 'make' bug? If so, I'd like to understand the
problem better, since I suspect it'll affect other makefiles too.
(And if it's not a 'make' bug I also want to understand it better....)
