Hello.
I have been working with this for over a month now, and I keep getting
this error in /var/log/messages. It inevitably crashes the system:
conftest[6684]: segfault at 0000000000603000 rip 00002b5fdba0c02b rsp
00007fffcf52b3e8 error 6
It is often followed by this error:
init: Trying to re-exec init
Upon next boot, mounted partitions almost always have errors. Fsck
fixes most, but there have been instances where a reinstall is required.
My System:
Dual quad-core Opteron "Barcelona" OS2347WAL4BGE chips
8GB of ecc Kingston ram
Tyan s2932N2GR motherboard (nvidia 3600M chipset).
Antec 650 watt powersupply
3 250 GB Hard Drives
Gentoo linux compiled as amd64 with the following cflags:
CFLAGS="-march=k8 -O2 -pipe"
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}"
I have verified the that memory, hard drives and the CPUs are in good
working condition. I likewise have the latest bios update for the tyan
motherboard (which is what allows the barcelona to work). I have
installed, wiped, low-level formatted over a dozen times now, and
nothing seems to help.
My current kernel config (though I have tried many) is here:
http://sciotech.com/myconfig
I am waaay behind schedule for this server... any help or feedback is
appreciated.
Thank you.
Chris
