Thanks for the report. This is a known problem with using older autoconf
with newer m4. All of the testsuite failures are spurious, and due to the
change in how m4 outputs its error messages. See this series of eight
patches [1] if you'd like to patch autoconf 2.59 to work with modern m4.
In the meantime, consider upgrading; the latest stable version of autoconf
is 2.62.
