Use of libtool 2.4 will solve libtool's violation of the rule, but not 
the EVENT_CHECK_VISIBILITY macro.

Most likely, you are missing a quoted call to AC_LANG_SOURCE in the 
definition of EVENT_CHECK_VISIBILITY - what does the .m4 file look like 
that provides that macro?
