CVS Texinfo fails to build the Autoconf manual (from git)

Here are the errors that I'm getting:

autoconf.texi:8018: Misplaced }
autoconf.texi:8019: Must be after address@hidden' to use address@hidden'
autoconf.texi:8020: Misplaced }
autoconf.texi:8207: Must be after address@hidden' to use address@hidden'
autoconf.texi:8272: Misplaced }
autoconf.texi:8291: Misplaced }
autoconf.texi:8318: Misplaced }
autoconf.texi:8381: Must be after address@hidden' to use address@hidden'
conftest.c:4597: Must be after address@hidden' to use address@hidden'
conftest.c:15929: Must be after address@hidden' to use address@hidden'

They seems all spurious to me (but I might be wrong).  Also, where is
that "conftest.c" coming from?
