1. Builtin support for Fortran 90/95 and Fortran 77, so each can be configured separately (i.e., the settings for F77 are distinct from F90). 2. Builtin support for preprocessing Fortran code (90/95 & 77). This might involve special flags to the Fortran compiler or running a C preprocessor directly before invoking the Fortran compiler. Preprocessing Fortran is becoming fairly common.
