I think you misunderstood my bug report. The bug report was for the
automake source tree itself getting put into CVS, not for files
generated by automake. The makefile shipped with automake, for
building automake, is too general, and dies messily when presented
with an aclocal.m4, or Makefile.in, that is newer than its nominal
dependencies. The FAQ, as far as I can tell, does not address this
issue with building automake itself.
