Which version of m4? I'm guessing that you upgraded to m4 1.4.10,
which has the characteristic failure of truncated configure files on
Darwin and other platforms where fopen(file,"a+") pre-seeks to the
end. If my guess is right, upgrading to m4 1.4.11 will solve your problem.
