Doing dejagnu tests in checkinstall

Some of my DejaGnu testsuite for a particular project (GNU Zile) need to be run by the installcheck target. I can't see a documented way of making automake call dejagnu as part of installcheck rather than check; did I miss something, or is there an easy workaround?
