I can't find this answer in the FAQ or the manual page: When using sh,
at the Unix prompt if I press the ESC key, I see ^[ appear on my
screen. Under bash, I can't see this character visually. I'm not trying
to generate this in a script -- I already know about \e. I need to be
able to pass ESC and control characters from a terminal emulation
package. Works under sh but not under bash.
What am I missing? How do I turn OFF bash's apparent filtering of
escape/control bytes?
