ksh FPATH functionality

Is anyone working on adding ksh's FPATH to bash?  Is there some way to
get this type of functionality using bash's facilities - that I do not
know about?

If not - would the maintainer be willing to add such functionality to
the standard bash distribution if someone did the work?  Or does it
somehow conflict with the roadmap/philosophy of those currently
actively contributing to the bash development?

I *really* like FPATH ...
